About the location
Khao Lak is one of those destinations that tends to win people over quietly. It does not shout for attention in the way some bigger resorts do, but that is exactly the point. The beaches are broad and peaceful, the atmosphere is more low-key, and the overall feel is one of space and calm rather than constant activity. For travellers who want warmth, sea, good food and room to breathe, it can be a really rewarding choice.
The area stretches along a beautiful section of coastline, with golden beaches facing the Andaman Sea and green national park landscapes just inland. It is also known as a gateway to the Similan Islands, so if you want to add in boat trips, snorkelling or diving, you are in exactly the right part of Thailand. At the same time, it works perfectly well as a fly-and-flop destination.
