One of Ongar’s freshest High Street shops celebrates its 1st birthday.

I can scarcely believe that it’s now one year since we opened our second Flitch Travel shop in Ongar.

Celebrations aplenty

We were proud to host a special ‘Open House Week’ from Monday 1st – Saturday 6th September as we celebrated Flitch Travel Ongar’s first birthday in style!

We were joined in-store by some of our fabulous tour operator partners - ready to chat all things travel. Main topics were Cruising, Honeymoons, Family Holidays, Luxury Escapes, and Tours & Bucket Lists. Saturday the 6th was our anniversary day, and we marked this with a good old party – with cakes, treats, and giveaways, plus bucketloads of travel inspiration!

The story so far…

Last September we moved in and completely revamped the previously known Barclays Bank building at 186 High Street, Ongar - or Chipping Ongar as it’s also known.

The residents of Ongar and its surrounding villages have been wonderfully supportive and the warm-hearted welcome we received has been everything we hoped for, and more. Having been trading in Great Dunmow for over 25 years, it was a daunting prospect opening a second shop, especially in such a prominent position in the centre of town.

A huge Thank You from me

So from the bottom of my heart, thank you. It has been an absolute pleasure booking holidays, chatting and laughing with so many of you.

Our thanks also extend to our fellow local businesses. The community spirit in Ongar is thriving, teamwork is fruitful, and it is an absolute pleasure to be part of it - whether that be business or personal, I enjoy it all.

Everyone deserves a great holiday

It’s clear to see that folk round here like to travel. From South African Safaris to Disneyland Paris, from a week exploring Dubrovnik’s enchanting old town, to learning about Orangutan rehabilitation in Borneo, we’ve booked it all and much more besides.

We’re proud to have many repeat clients already. Many of those who booked during our opening month have since returned to our shop to book again for a second getaway, and to secure holidays for 2026 with a low deposit.

We specialise in tailoring holidays to meet your individual needs and desires, ensuring every trip you take through us is an unforgettable experience.

I believe this pays homage to our after-booking support. As your travel agent we will take care of all your “Hadmin” (modern slang abbreviation for Holiday Admin, all that boring but oh so important, you mustn’t make a mistake, stuff). We will check passports, visas, complete your checking in and print all your boarding passes - in short, we do the hard work, so you don’t have to.

If you haven’t yet popped in to see the shop, please do - you just might see a familiar face. Amie, one of our award-winning travel agents, used to work for Barclays in the very same building. If I say the lovely lady with beautiful long golden hair, then I am certain it will ring a few bells. I am stoked to have Amie on the team; she brings fantastic customer service and a wealth of travel knowledge to Ongar.

Rooted in Ongar

The shop manager and award-winning travel agent is Amelia. If she’s not off on a luxury expedition somewhere you will find her in the shop keen to share her worldwide travel experiences. Amelia’s organisation skills are second to none - book in her shop and you’ll be sure to have every request actioned.

Amelia has deep roots in Ongar. Her Great Grandfather made such an impact on the local community a few decades ago that a street is named after him - now if that has got you thinking, you’ll have to drop by and catch up with Amelia to find out more.

A holiday happy place

The shop in Ongar boasts our innovative Cruise wall, upon which we have a huge selection of cruise brochures and offers, from small boutique and river cruising, to large and luxury cruise liners. We’ve got it all.

Opposite the Cruise wall we have our fabulous Holiday wall, with lots of exciting brochures, updated regularly, to fuel your holiday inspiration. Come on in and help yourself or ask the team to point you in the right direction - the kettle is always on so sit down and we’ll make you a cuppa whilst we discuss your next adventure.
