Keep up to date

What have we been up to?

23rd September, 2020

It has been a turbulent 6 months for us all, the travel industry has been tested to its limits but we are still here!
With the closure of another travel agency on our high street we thought its important for you to know that we are still here, Flitch Travel are open and we haven’t stopped at all during the pandemic.

Here is a little update as to what we have been up to…

Back in March the cancellations were coming through thick and fast, this continued into the summer months, for some this was very disappointing news and for some the cancellation was greatly received. Regardless of how the news was taken all of our clients were given the opportunity to amend their holiday to a later date, take a Refund Credit Note enabling them to book another holiday when the time is right or take a full refund.

We were delighted to see most of our clients postpone their holidays to next year, we understand how important holidays are and we are elated to see the passion for travel is still very much alive.

On the 23rd March under Boris’s say so, we had to close our shop doors. Thanks to the wizardry of modern technology, within 24 hours our team were ready to work remotely from our homes. Our doors were shut for 3 months but don’t be fooled into thinking we were not busy, as well as the unprecedented amount of paperwork received and the ever-changing travel restrictions, we worked tirelessly every day to ensure all our clients were constantly updated.

We are an independent travel agent, this means we are not tied to any particular tour operator, we work with over 200 tour operators allowing us to source the best and most suitable travel arrangements for each of our clients.

During the last 6 months we have learnt a lot about our travel partners, some operators dealt with our clients very well and offered the time and compassion they deserved. Some operators did not match our expectations, we felt they did not handle the situation well nor followed the advice from ABTA or the current Package Travel Regulations, which is law. Moving forward we will not be using any operator that lacked in service, we will only use the best of the best for our clients.

As quickly as we had to vacate the shop, we soon reopened our doors with a slightly different look.

To keep you safe when you come and see us and to keep our staff safe, we have made some small changes. Outside our shop you will see there is more space, we have removed some of our famous “specials boards” this helps ease congestion on the High Street and allows for 2 metres social distancing, we now have one board outside but fear not we are maximising the space on the board and still managing to get up to 8 different offers on the one board!

On arrival you will see a blue rope across the inside of the door, this is to ensure we have no more than two clients in at one time. Immediately in front of you we have a sanitiser station, please do use the hand sanitiser on arrival and in line with the current law please do wear your face mask.

All our desks are fitted with clear Perspex screens, this is an added layer of protection for our staff.
We have a new and enhanced cleaning pattern, our desks, chairs and items that fall in a high-touch area such as door handles, telephones and pens are cleaned with antibacterial cleanser after each use.

It is fair to say we feel as safe as we can be here in the shop, we hope you do you too. If there is anything we can do to assist you in feeling more comfortable coming to see us then please just say.

We are open full time, Monday to Saturday 9am until 5.30pm, we welcome you to come and see us, however, if you would rather not, then feel free to call or email. We still have superb technology on our side, we can create bespoke itineraries and make a booking without meeting in person if its not required.

Since reopening in July, we have seen an interest in last minute getaways, despite the changing travel restrictions and quarantine announcements there have been some holidays depart this summer. We have great sources of information here at Flitch Travel and we are becoming good at predicting which countries may fall into quarantine, there is no guarantee in these unusual times but we are fast becoming known for our sound travel advice.

So much so that we have featured on ITV Anglia television twice and made countless appearances on the radio including BBC radio and Heart FM.

We look forward to catching up with all our regular clients and welcoming new clients to Flitch Travel, we really are here to help and proud to be the only travel agency shop on the Great Dunmow High Street.
